Missing boy returned home safely:

BRITISH COLUMBIA —

A three-year-old boy abducted earlier this week is home safe with his parents.

It's an unbelievable outcome, and one his family and community in British Columbia are celebrating.

The Hebert family is not having any trouble finding the words to describe their joy at having their son, back in their arms. Paul Hebert, the boy’s father said Kienan is in a good mood.

"He's playing with his brothers and sisters, thank you, thank you."

Tuesday night they tucked Kienan into bed, but the next morning their son was nowhere to be found.

Investigators believe someone entered the home and kidnapped him in the middle of the night. An amber alert was issued and police began looking for 46-year-old Randall Hopley — a man on probation after convictions on assault and breaking and entering. At one point, authorities thought he was headed across the border to Washington state, but police turned their attention to a property in Sparwood where he rented a trailer.

After they searched nearby properties for three days, Kienan's parents made an emotional plea for the kidnapper to drop him off at a safe location. The suspect's mother also made a plea.

"Will you please come home to me? I hope you can hear me, and come home, and I would like you to bring him home too," Margaret Fink said.

And early this morning, police say the suspect did what was being requested of him, returning the boy to his home.

Experts in child abduction cases say the boy's safe return suggests one of two scenarios.
"Either Kienan's captor was intimidated by the amber alerts, roadblocks, police presence and intense media coverage, or the parents' emotional appeal affected the abductor's conscience. It's a higher risk to bring the child back, than it was to take the child in the first place," Ernie Allen, CEO and President of the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children said.
