Movie filmed in Genesee County raising awareness about human trafficking debuts

by Veronica Meadows

Changing stigmas surrounding human trafficking.
That’s what a movie filmed in Genesee County is doing.
"Ring of Silence" made its debut at Flint's Capitol Theater.
Human trafficking is an issue that's not just happening in Genesee County where director Nicole Bowers Wallace wrote Ring of Silence, but across the globe.
“The more I found how prevalent this epidemic is not only in the cities but the suburbs I knew I had to do this movie,” she said.
Hundreds came to see the debut for Ring of Silence. It's shown through the lens of a 17 year old girl. She falls in love with an older man, eventually leading her to the world of sex trafficking. Michigan State Police Detective Trooper Amy Belanger says that's often how it happens.
“Usually the male in the relationship makes them think they have this future together and that's how this movie starts out and when he flips the switch then you start noticing changes. She's raped she's sexually, assaulted,” Belanger said.

Belanger works with Flushing Township Police Chief Brian Fairchild on the Genesee County Human Trafficking Task Force. He hopes this movie sheds light on the signs parents and teens should look for.
“Change in behavior, change in attitude, a sudden lack of attention in school and distancing not wanting you to know who they're dating,” Fairchild said.
Above all Bowers Wallace hopes this film open's people's eyes.
“Most people have no idea what's happening and how big the problem is and that's the biggest thing I want to take away,” she said.
Organizations across Flint stepped up with donations to make this movie happen.

ADAM (Find My Child) 1983 (Movie)

ADAM (Find My Child) 1983 from Trinity Mount Ministries on Vimeo.

Code Adam

The Adam Walsh Story
On July 27, 1981, 6-year-old Adam Walsh and his mother Revé went to a department store about a mile away from their home to shop for lamps. When they entered the store Adam saw several children playing video games on a television monitor and asked if he could stay to play. His mother let him stay and went to the lamp department, which was about 75 feet away. Because the lamp she wanted was not in stock she returned rather quickly, less than 10 minutes later, but couldn’t find Adam. After looking for Adam on her own for two hours, someone finally called the local police department. By the end of that week thousands of fliers with Adam’s photograph were distributed through the local area. Sixteen days after Adam disappeared from the store his body was found and identified.

"MACHINE GUN PREACHER" (Movie Trailer) Based on the true story of Sam Childers - Release Date: 9/23/2011

Machine Gun Preacher is the inspirational true story of Sam Childers, a former drug-dealing criminal who undergoes an astonishing transformation and finds an unexpected calling: saving hundreds of kidnapped and orphaned children. Gerard Butler (300) delivers a searing performance as Childers, the impassioned founder of the Angels of East Africa rescue organization in Golden Globe-nominated director Marc Forster's (Monster's Ball, Finding Neverland) moving story of violence and redemption. When ex-biker-gang member Sam Childers (Butler) makes the life-changing decision to go to East Africa to help repair homes destroyed by civil war, he is outraged by the unspeakable horrors faced by the region's vulnerable populace, especially the children. Ignoring the warnings of more experienced aide workers, Sam breaks ground for an orphanage where it's most needed--in the middle of territory controlled by the brutal Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), a renegade militia that forces youngsters to become soldiers before they even reach their teens. But for Sam, it is not enough to shelter the LRA's intended victims. Determined to save as many as possible, he leads armed missions deep into enemy territory to retrieve kidnapped children, restoring peace to their lives--and eventually his own. The explosive, real-life tale of a man who has rescued over a thousand orphans from starvation, disease and enslavement, Machine Gun Preacher also stars Michelle Monaghan (Due Date), Kathy Baker (Cold Mountain), Madeline Carroll (Mr. Popper's Penguins), Academy Award(R) nominated Michael Shannon (Revolutionary Road) and Souleymane Sy Savane ("Damages").

The best spiritual movie I have ever seen
6 October 2008 | by robertallenandersonjr (United States) – See all my reviews
Fireproof was one of the most inspirational movies I will ever see. It had so much heart, emotion, love, and meaning. The movie explains a lot about relationships between parents, husbands, wives, and kids. The movie portrays the life of a fireman that is having troubles with his marriage and is trying to save it. The whole movie is about him trying to find ways to save his marriage and become a better man. I think that after you see this movie you will want to start praying and believing in the lord. The movie is extremely sad in many different scenes. It had a ton of emotion in several scenes especially the firefighting scenes. The movie is mostly all about second chances at life. The acting started out pretty average and got a little better. The only really good actor was Kirk Cameron. I think that everyone who sees this movie will most likely tear in one scene. The movie hits you hard and doesn't stop until the very end. It gets better and better as you keep watching. If you pay close attention you can pick up many different smart things about the movie. For a low-budget film this was a very superb one. This movie was really great for couples having trouble with marriage should see. Adults would understand this movie very good. Kids might get a little bit out of it as well. I think all parents should take their kid to go see this movie and have your kids follow the lord at a young age. Overall this was a very excellent movie with a great amount of meaning.
